Description

In this online Pilates workshop, Dorene teaches alignment from a Restorative Exercise Specialist perspective and works to help clients understand how turned out legs and feet help to create many issues such as hip pain, bunions, arthritis, "fallen arches", plantar fasciitis and so on up the chain.

Learn how to biomechanically align the feet and legs to help organize better alignment and work toward alleviating pain. Watch how Dorene works with a client who has hyper-pronation of the feet to align her feet and legs and work the intrinsic & extrinsic foot muscles, as well as the hips to lift her arches.

The workshop begins with basic foot anatomy and alignment. We then move into intrinsic foot exercises that can be challenging for those who have kept their feet shod most of the time. Then we progress into adding extrinsic muscles, followed by more challenging hip movements. We finish by showing how to incorporate some of the more challenging exercises on a Reformer and the Chair.

Objectives

  • Develop awareness of the intrinsic foot muscles that may be a bit underused
  • Learn how even a slight turnout affects movement up the chain
  • Understand how to biomechanically align the feet for the joints of the toes and ankles to function optimally
  • Watch a client with hyper-pronated feet ("fallen arches") get her feet to lift into place with her hips
