Description
The psoas plays a role in core activation and alignment of the spine, pelvis and legs. Madeline will teach how to find the psoas, release and recruit it, and see how it affects the spinal alignment. Balancing the psoas can improve breathing, release spinal tension including the neck and hip joints and allow for better core engagement. Madeline will also demonstrate how other muscles and bones are moved synergistically with the psoas. Objectives
- Learn location and function of the psoas and the relating structures
- Define an imbalance of psoas and its affect on posture, and movement potential
- Learn how psoas activation deepens core recruitment and release tension of hip flexors
- Learn mat exercises to retrain dysfunctional recruitment patterns

Thank you Madeline, as usual your presentation is clear, concise and precise. I enjoyed going from the skeleton to the patient in flesh and bones and very much appreciated your humble approach to the psoas functions. As a dancer and Pilates instructor, psoas has remained a central element and an ongoing questioning in my life. And it feels good to hear somebody with so much knowledge and experience such as you, keep questions open. To me this is the key to a sincere and wise pedagogy.
Parker S
This workshop was so informative! Madeline Black is extremely knowledgeable and presents a lot of complex information in an accessible way. I love all the practical assessments, releases, and exercises to balance the psoas and help clients find an integrated core. I'm still digesting all the info that was presented, but I think this will really change how I work with my clients.
Dorienne L
I love this. I have a tight Psoas, so I appreciate all the information in this workshop.
Devon P
So fascinating thank you
Olivia S
This workshop was helpful in allowing me to see the way in which the Psoas serves and structural support, rather than thinking of it as solely a hip flexor. In my own practice, I have been integrating this approach with more and more of my clients and this workshop gave me tools to continue doing this. Thank you!
Carol T
I enjoy Madeline's indepth teaching.

Thank you Madeline for giving me a new understanding of the function of the psoas as part of the deep core. I'm looking forward to experiment and train my eyes to see what Madeline can perceive as her client is moving:)
Wanda G
Great class but would like some more comments regarding muscles that help with hip flexion in addition to the psoas acting as a stabilizer.
Wanda G
Great class. Would like a few more tips on releasing the diaphragm but maybe that is for another class...Thanks!
Sarah J
I appreciate your teaching

I've gained better insight of anatomy, function, and pathology of the psoas from taking this course. Madeline Black is a knowledgeable and excellent presenter. She is able to apply findings obtained in clinical studies to treatment interventions. I look forward to applying this new understanding while working with clients as both a Pilate's instructor and physical therapist.

A lot of information and look forward to continued psoas education as more is discovered.
Lorn M
The body's alignment issues and the changes resulting from the exercises would have been clearer to see had she been wearing a sports bra rather than a top covering all of the torso. It was an informative workshop about this important muscle and its interaction, layering and cascading relationships with the other muscles involved in supporting the spine and moving the body in space.
Kelly H
extremely informative!
Tracy M
Loved how Madeline used the band to illustrate the Psoas. Would like to see a model that doesn't move quite as well as Jen!
