Good function of the foot and ankle is determined by balanced musculature of the lower leg. Watch the video to learn techniques to release the connective tissue between the fibularis and soleus muscles. These are great techniques that your clients can learn to do at home. With consistent massaging the lower leg can balance and create more mobility in the ankle and foot.

Thanks for watching! In addition to the balls shown in this video, the Green Spiky Ball is great for this; purchase one here.

Would you recommend doing these exercises before and/or after a workout?

    HI Sarah,
Great question. I use this release before and after working out especially cardio work. You’ll notice that if you do it before your run or a long walk it helps to organize and calibrate the bones and musculature etc especially in the lower leg and foot so that your movement feels easier and more fluid. If you have time before your workout it is best to warm the area before you release it either with a hot bath or a warm smartspine or rice sock . The tissue will be more supple and easier to respond. Definitely do release work right after your workout also. If you are short on time , I think the release work is more important before because we always want to organize, release and then strengthen. Your traditional stretches can wait until after the workout. Hope all that makes sense.

I believe this will help with knee issues as well. I am going to start on myself tonight! Thanks!

    Hi Beth,

If done consistenly this will very much help align the knee and help with chronic pain. It talks to organizing the mass amount of connective tissue in this area. The connective tissue in the upper and lower leg is a continuum of tissue that transitions , spirals and exits at the knee area. To affect the knee you must work down below and above it . Let us know how it works for you.
