Dr. Suzanne Clements Martin, DPT, founder of Pilates Therapeutics LLC, has been a pioneer in the international application of Pilates therapy. Her unique approach, which blends art with science, has been instrumental in her courses on spine health, women's health, foot management, cancer recovery, and performing arts enhancement since 2002. She is a NCPT Pilates Master, and holds certifications in scoliosis specific treatment, APTA Academy of Pelvic Health, Manual Therapy, Barefoot Rehabilitation, and Lymphatic Studies. Her dedication to evidence-informed education ensures that her material is always up-to-date and relevant.
An avid promoter of Pilates and Lifestyle Fitness, she authored 3 fitness books with Dorling Kindersley, and wrote wellness columns for Dance Magazine and Dance Studio Life (A Better You) for a decade. In addition to her recent publication, Spinal Asymmetry and Scoliosis, published by Handspring Publishing, she is presently working on a collaborative authorship with Elizabeth Larkam on Movement Practices for connective tissue and hypermobility, again with Handspring Publishing.
Her diverse background encompasses over 40 years of international teaching experience in the health and movement fields, blending art and science into her instruction. As a performing arts specialist, she conducted nutrition seminars for the School of the San Francisco Ballet and has been the lead physical therapist/wellness consultant for Smuin Contemporary Ballet in San Francisco for over 25 years. She presented sessions at the PMA, IADMS, PAMA, and DANCE USA for over 20 years. Her latest contribution to the DANCE USA Informational Papers was on Transitions in Dance with co-author Dr. Bonnie Robson. She recently highlighted Pilates somatic exercises in a co-presentation with Dr. Linda Bluestein on Scoliosis and Hypermobility at the 2023 IADMS Columbus Conference. She is well known for many Pilates special population presentations in the last decade with Pilates Method Alliance, Balanced Body, Body Control London, Epilates Seoul, Pilates Shanghai, Pilates Thailand, and Applied Movement-Singapore.
She is married to Tom Martin for 42 years, with whom she manages Pilates Therapeutics. They reside in Marietta, GA with their 2 guinea pigs, Onion and Snake Snack.
