The chair is the perfect piece of equipment on which to practice squatting. Instead of loading body weight onto a flexed knee and ankle, the spring and chair paddle move into the body so we can work on strengthening the leg without extra strain on the joints. This is essential for the pregnant body because of the laxity, or looseness, in the smooth tissue that accompanies hormone change in pregnancy.

Be sure to keep your mommies comfortable with blankets and props, and always make sure to help them on and off equipment with care. Also, emphasis on the breath is key; it will enable your clients to find the connection between the breath and exertion. The breath is a powerful tool during the labor and delivery process. Therefore, pregnant women’s training in the Pilates studio can have a profound positive influence on them during this time.
