    I’m watching and writing from Florence, Italy. I love the Pilates Show Mondays series. Thank you for that. I just watched the Wunder Stairs, great idea. At a certain point when speaking of a standing position you mentioned “keep your sitz bones wide”? I thought sitz bones should be squeezed together, something like when we “wrap our hips. If you could clarify sitz bones wide, I’d appreciate it. Grazie

    Hi Christine,

    I wish we were meeting in person at a cafe in Florence right now! Thanks for writing in and I am so thrilled you are enjoying The Pilates Show Mondays. We have so much fun doing them and the feedback keeps us going.

    I love your comment and it is a great detail to look at. The sitz bones will naturally narrow when we straighten the leg. This happens through the natural counter rotations in our bones. This is called ideokinesis and Eric Franklin has famously coined this Bone Rhythms . There is no need to do any extra squeezing of them together. If your clients overuse the superficial glute and initiate with a glute squeeze to move their leg eventually the hip socket and lower back will be very unhappy. I like to remind myself and my clients to try ( even when the leg is straight) to keep my sitz bones as wide as possible. ( And this does not mean by increasing my lumbar lordosis. Your clients will try this so watch out.) This will allow for a purer movement of the leg inside the pelvis instead of our pelvis and/or spine shoving our leg around.
