Wow..wow...wow!! This workshop just totally hit home with me as a teacher and my current clientele. Loved to see how the body changed from propping and just letting it release and breath with support. Appreciated seeing the propping in supine, prone, side lying, seated. Very helpful! My question is...you had mentioned that once they are propped, you would proceed into movement from there. So when you were on the reformer doing footwork during the workshop, you would keep the supine propping throughout the supine work there? Side-lying work you would keep the propping and go into side lying work from there? Or is the propping meant to find release and bring the nervous system down. It would seem propping into movement would be good since they will feel supported and their movement would be more successful and less demanding on the nervous system for working with this type of student. Also, the boney rhythms are so awesome! You had mentioned Eric Franklin’s books. Is there one in particular explaining the boney rhythms? Are there any courses you would recommend on pain and movement? Thanks so much! |

Hi Bonnie, We are so happy you enjoyed the workshop. It is pretty amazing, right? You are right about the propping and the movement. The propping is there to support the body in movement and as the client progresses the propping will change. My favorite Franklin book is Dynamic Alignment Through Imagery. Tom McCook has two workshops on our site that highlight the Franklin Method and the Bone Rhythms. You would really enjoy those. Our Professional Release Workshop for Movement Professionals will give you lots of information about pain and movement. We offer this once a year in Asheville. Love, Jen |

Hi Casey, thank you so much for your workshop on pain body. I purchased it when it came out, but really looked into all sessions now that I had a client in pain. She had those in the lower back in an acute state but carries them around already for a longer time. I took her through everything you did, without any further movement. She is the type - ..."now I loose all the muscles that were so hard to build up, because I am forced to rest..." and I didn´t want to serve that pattern. So got her to understand that her body cries for rest, length and breath. Thank god I have all the smart spine tools, even the pillow and have met Marie -José this spring for a workshop in Holland.. (I would like the praying hands -emoji right here!) , and thank God to Fusionpilates I have all the M-J Blom workshops and the Tom McCook workshops.. So I was well prepared. But only doing it actually with a client,, with different bodys teaches us to "listen" to the tissue. Also Madeline Black, who is kind of my mentor, if I dare to say so, talks about that "listening" with your hands. I love this work, I could dedicate myself to this way of teaching! My client loved it, she really unwinded and had a happy glow in her face when she walked out the door. I told her not to jump in the car right away, but walk up and down the street before driving home. And that was good. The next day she told me, that she already she felt a different sitting in the car. And that the pain has diminished a lot. that is what makes us happy, right? I also know that we can only do a certain part of healing with this - or help them to heal themselves.. With people who have a lot of pain and other symptoms it might be good to have them read and look into the work of Anthony William. I highly recommend to look into his thoughts to Fibromyalgia or Rheumatic Athritis! Changing the diet can do other wonders, especially for those with chronic pain. But for now: thank you so much for the great workshop! Love, Silke |

Hi Silke! I am so happy that this workshop proved useful to you, and your client! I totally agree that helping clients realize their full potential and ability to find pain release is most gratifying. It sounds to me like you have an amazing set of tools at your disposal. And I just love hearing about your ingenuity when applying the genius of Marie-Jose Blom, Madeline Black, and Tom McCook's work into your everyday practice. It's what having a Pilates community is all about... we all help each other! Thank you so much for reaching out, and keep us posted on your progress! Warmly, Casey Marie |
